GRUNAU CHALETS

NAMIBIA

It will take you two hours to drive from Grunau to the Fish River Canyon. This is the world's second largest Canyon and a must see destination. Canon Lodge just a few km from the Canyon is perhaps Namibia's most interesting lodge. If you decide to visit the Caprivi, Mazambala Island Lodge on an island in the Kwando river is the best destination for you. If this is your final destination you might decide to skip Grunau and to overnight at the Quivertree Forest Rest camp near Keetmanshoop and 140 km north of Grunau. They offer self-catering accommodation, but they also serve meals in their restaurant.

ZIMBABWE

After completion of the Kariba Dam and as the water levels rose, many animals were trapped on the numerous Islands. Rupert Fothergill and other volunteers rescued these animals. The largest Island was than named after Fothergill. Today Fothergill Island is home to numerous wild animals and a luxury lodge.

BOTSWANA

After your visit to Grunau Lodge you might want to visit the neigbouring Botswana. If you do so after your visit to the Caprivi it might be a good idea to enter the country at Shakawe and to stay a few nights in Drotsky's Cabins or one of her sister lodges namely the more luxurious Lawdon's Lodge or Xaro Lodge. Your next visit will most likely be the Chobe Game Reserve. Here Senyati Safari Camp offers very similar accommodation to what you would experience at Grunau Motors Inn. If you prefer a hotel or a safari lodge Toro Lodge will most certainly be your answer. Toro Lodge is on the banks of the Chobe River and it is a rather affordable destination.

If you plan a visit to Gaborone the capital city of Botswana look no further than the Cresta Lodge. This lodge is one of the most popular hotels in Gaborone CBD and is Grunau Lodge's prefered accommodation in Gaborone. The drive from Chobe and Kasane will be a rather long trip. We therefore believe that a night at Planet Baobab on the edge of the Makgadigadi Pans will be a very welcome break. This lodge is beautiful and the Baobab Trees around it magnificent.

SOUTH AFRICA

Grunau Lodge recommends various lodges and hotels in South Africa. The Savoy Hotel iin Mthatha is the best hotel in the former capital of the Transkei. Mthatha is now in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa
